Loved this podcast. The Western Showring started off by making rules to accommodate the old California style by offering snafflebit, then bosal classes, then 'reined' horses progressively up the age groups. But then somehow it has all morphed into something terrible, with low heads, short strides, no impulsion, dramatic spins, and sliding stops that are nothing like the style of the California Reinsmen. The vaquero style was more like the Spanish style still promoted in events like Working Equitation, where classical values are held in high esteem. Bring back genuine competition for true believers of the "uphill" classical horse - the California Reinsman should be honoured and promoted as one of the finest styles of horsemanship ever, and preserved!
