How we are funded

Curious Equestrian is funded by the people who listen to it. Everything we make (the podcast, the newsletter, the After-Hours Tapes, the field notes) is free for everyone, and it stays that way.

Each episode costs about £200 to produce the work you hear and see: the interview, the edit, the video. We publish two or three episodes a month.

Because listeners fund the work, we answer to no one else. Nobody pays to be on the podcast, no advertiser shapes what we cover, and nobody gets a say in what questions Anna asks. The sponsor's slot on this podcast belongs only to its listeners. We do earn a small commission when you buy a book through our bookshop links (always marked as such), and there's merch if a T-shirt is more your thing. Both help. Neither comes close to paying for an episode, which is why this page exists.

If the podcast has ever changed how you think about your horse, there are two ways to help keep it going:

Sponsor an episode. A one-off contribution of whatever you like. £200 covers an episode outright, and a sponsored episode carries its sponsor's name in the credits, with a dedication if you'd like one: to your horse, in memory of one, or to the person who taught you to ask better questions. Smaller contributions pool towards the next episode, and every one is counted. Become an episode sponsor.

Become an executive producer. In broadcasting, the executive producer is the one who pays for the programme and then lets the makers get on with it. That's this: £6 a month or £60 a year towards the wages that make each episode, your name in the credits if you'd like it there, and no paywall anywhere, because there isn't one. The first thirty-three (together, one episode's worth each month) will be credited as founding executive producers, permanently.

And if you can't or don't want to pay: nothing changes. Listen, read, share an episode with someone at the yard who'd argue with it. That helps too.
