What to Expect During a Professional Sheath Cleaning
Q: How does the horse feel during the appointment and does it hurt at any point?
Allie reassured us that a professional sheath cleaning should never hurt your horse. However, she acknowledged that some horses might initially feel anxious about having that area touched, especially if they're already experiencing discomfort from sharp smegma, thick layers of dead skin, or a large bean.
"If your horse has sharp smegma, thick layers of dead crust or skin on the penis, or has a large bean, your horse is going to be in discomfort anyway," Allie explained. "So you need a sympathetic hygienist who will be able to remove that nice and gently without causing harm or discomfort."
